I loved using the Lego Mindstorm kits with a group of students. The programming lessons were fun and instructional, and the kids wanted to continue working with the kits.
But the group consisted of 8 handpicked students (motivated, cooperative, adept at technology usage), the worktime came out of classtime in which they had already finished their project, and we only worked together for 5 days. How would a robotics unit work at my school for a class of 25+ students? I can't imagine working with so many students on such a project. Plus, the cost would be fairly high (at least 6 kits needed). I can see this working as an elective in middle/high school or as an enrichment program or activity (like Destination Imagination) where the group would meet after school. Any suggestions?
